Indian PM Modi Faces Protesters' 'Unwelcome' to Silicon Valley - NBC News

My article at NBC News Asian America re PM Modi's Silicon Valley visit
"Prime Minister Modi's 'Rock Star' visit to Silicon Valley can't make up for his rock bottom performance in human and civil rights," Virali Modi-Parekh of Alliance of South Asians Taking Action (ASATA) told NBC News. "Since Modi's been in office, violence against religious minorities has spiked. But Modi turns a blind eye while churches are burned and Muslims and Christians are being forcibly converted. There is a culture of fear and victimization, especially against minorities in India, which undermines Modi's standing as a business partner."

Asian-American Advocates Join #IStandWithAhmed - NBC News

My article for NBC News Asian America: More support from the AAPI community for Ahmed Mohamed #IStandWithAhmed
"Ahmed and his talents have become victims of a culture of suspicion that we must extinguish," Representative Judy Chu, Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, said as she called for an apology and called out the costs of Islamophobia, racism, and racial profiling. "Now, because of these racist and mistrustful responses from authority figures, students like Ahmed may be too afraid to engage and further express their creativity at school. This right here is where racial profiling and Islamophobic rhetoric lead us. What a tragedy."

Chicago-Area Assault On Sikh American Treated As Possible Hate Crime - NBC News

My article for NBC News Asian America
"We unfortunately have this burden to explain who we are," Kaur said. "We have a responsibility to reach out to people in our communities—whether it's your PTA or police office board or city library. Most students who come here are busy doing the immigrant hustle, just trying to get by, and we [at Sikh Coalition] try to remind the [Sikh] community that they need to reach out. There is so much misunderstanding about the Sikh community and who we are."

My article for NBC News re Indian Grandpa in Alabama
"This grandfather has committed no crime, is accused of no crime," Prosecutor Saaed Mody of the U.S. Department of Justice told jurors, according to local media. During his encounter with Officer Parker, Patel - who was visiting his son and his son's family in the U.S. from India - said "No English" five times, and was slammed to the ground, causing injuries that sent him to the hospital and left him partially paralyzed. "Seven months later that grandfather still cannot walk without assistance," said Mody. "That's what this case is about."
