Remembering 9/11
A year after 9/11, an adoptive mom in Connecticut wrote to me about how her daughter (adopted from China) had been walking to kindergarten one morning when a car full of high school girls pulled over, surrounded and taunted the little girl, who then ran home in tears and didn't dare walk to school again. I asked the mom if this incident happened to happen on 9/11. It hadn't occurred to her to make that connection. Every year, I tell my children to be safe on this day, to be on the lookout, and to stand up for their friends.
